Imagine yourself as a road architect in a vineyard region, where your goal is simple: connect your farms and castles to the juiciest grapes. Avenue is an incredibly fast-paced 'flip-and-write' game, where the fun lies in sketching routes on your own sheet while trying to predict what comes next. The rhythm is frantic because everyone plays simultaneously, meaning there's no boring downtime between turns, making it perfect for large groups of up to ten people!
Here is how it works: each round, a card is revealed indicating which type of road segment everyone must draw on their maps. But here is the twist: some cards are marked as scoring cards. When the fourth scoring card appears, it's time to count the points for one of your farms. The catch is that the order in which farms are scored is revealed gradually, forcing you to adapt your strategy in real-time.
The real 'trick' is the risk management. You earn points for every grape connected to the scored farm, but beware of greed! If the current farm isn't connected to more grapes than your previous farm, you lose points. This creates an interesting dilemma: if you score too many points early on, you raise the bar and make scoring subsequent farms a real challenge. It's the kind of game that keeps the tension high until the very last line, balancing ambition with caution to avoid ending up in the red.
