About the game

What you do in a play session

Barcelona: New Corner Buildings arrives as an expansion that broadens the base game experience by adding new corner buildings that inject extra strategic depth into city construction. The set contains four level‑2 corner buildings and two level‑3 ones, which blend into the existing pool of tiles. The twist is that these corners can be used to overbuild existing structures, but only in a strict order: a level‑2 corner may sit on top of a level‑1 building, and a level‑3 corner only on a level‑2. To place them, players must use the citizen figures depicted on the tiles, sending them to their respective tracks just like any other worker. After placing your marker atop the newly built corner, you score Victory Points immediately, with no additional bonuses or penalties beyond the standard points. This mechanic reinforces worker placement and tile placement while introducing end‑game bonuses that can swing the final score. Playtime stays in the 60‑90 minute range for 1‑4 players, solo included. The learning curve isn’t steep, as the rules are direct extensions of the base game, but respecting the level sequence adds a layer of tactical planning that will please fans of thoughtful decision‑making. Overall, the expansion adds variety to Barcelona’s board without overcomplicating the game, making it a perfect fit for those who already love the original and want more building options.
