About the game
What you do in a play session
Barrage: The Far Companies brings two new corporations that give a 180° upgrade to your dam‑building universe. The first, the Japanese one, has a terra‑fill dam aesthetic and uses "Elevations" that act as bases, letting you build more dams but limiting height and capacity. The equipment? Excavators instead of concrete mixers for a realistic touch. The Brazilian corporation, on the other hand, focuses on flexibility: you can place Bases, Elevations, or Conduits in any order, picking strength and type bonuses. But beware: stronger bonuses come at the cost of permanently losing one or more machines. When you build the third powerhouse, each corporation unlocks a special ability that can turn the tide.
The set keeps the economic and environmental vibe of the base game while adding a layer of strategy with action queues and route building. If you love planning, resource optimization, and a bit of corporate drama, this expansion will blow your mind.
The game remains 1‑4 players, 60‑120 minutes, with the same sleek aesthetics and high‑quality components. The action‑queue mechanic ensures each turn is pre‑planned, while the transport routes between dams demand a strategic look at the network. Variable player powers add replayability as each game can start with a different goal. If you’re already in the Barrage series, the expansion offers new ways to play and more challenges.
In short, Barrage: The Far Companies is for those who love planning, economics, and a touch of corporate drama. If you enjoy building networks, managing resources, and discovering new corporate abilities, this expansion will surprise you.
The game is ideal for families, friend groups, and board‑gaming circles that seek depth without being overly complex. The learning curve is moderate, but playtime can range from 60 to 120 minutes depending on player count and familiarity with the system.
