About the game
What you do in a play session
You’ve braved monster‑filled seas to set foot on the legendary Black Skull Island, only to discover you’re not alone – everyone, even the neighbor’s parrot, is already there! Black Skull Island pits 2 to 9 treasure‑hunting sea wolves against each other in a fast, noisy scramble. Each round starts with players secretly choosing a Character card (or two in a 2‑player duel) and placing it face‑down. When everyone’s ready, the cards are flipped simultaneously and abilities resolve in order of their Activation Numbers, lowest first. Every character has a unique power, from stealing booty to forcing opponents to discard, creating plenty of bluffing and take‑that moments. After all abilities fire, players pick up any cards still in front of them. If a player reaches 7 or more Booty tokens, the game ends and the richest pirate wins. The game is light (weight 1.3), lasts 15‑25 minutes, and needs almost no setup – just open the box, hand out the cards, and play. The standout is the 16 distinct characters, offering variety without complexity. It works for a lunch break, a coffee‑break, or a full‑blown party, supporting up to 9 players while still delivering intense 2‑player duels. If you love quick rounds, cheeky bluffing, and a pirate vibe, Black Skull Island belongs on your shelf.
