The eighth expansion of Carcassonne introduces three new tools that change how you build and score: bridges, castles, and bazaars. Bridges are road tiles that can cross a field, allowing an incomplete road to continue over it; they are marked and scored exactly like regular roads, but give you more flexibility to close routes in tricky spots. Castles are markers you place on two‑segment cities; when an adjacent city is completed, you earn extra points, creating a new profit opportunity amid city competition. Bazaars are special tiles that add an auction mechanic: when you place a bazaar tile, the other players bid in points; the highest bidder wins the tile and receives the corresponding score. These additions keep the tile‑placement core simple but add layers of strategy, such as deciding whether it’s worth using a bridge to open a new route or placing a castle for extra points. The expansion does not alter the base scoring rules—roads, cities, fields, and monasteries are still scored the same—but offers new ways to gain an edge. If you already master the base game and want to try fresh tactics, this expansion will enrich your sessions without a steep learning curve. Components are straightforward: just more bridge tiles, castle markers, and bazaar tiles, all in Carcassonne’s familiar production style.
