About the game
Get ready for a touch of magic and mischief in Carcassonne with the "Mage & Witch" expansion! This little gem adds eight new landscape tiles that bring mystical figures with them: a powerful mage and a cunning witch. By mixing these tiles into the main draw pile, whenever one of them appears, the player who drew it has a chance to change the game.

When playing one of these special tiles, you can place or move the mage or witch onto incomplete roads and cities. The rule is clear: they cannot share the same space. After positioning your mystical figure, you can still place one of your followers on that tile, as usual. But what makes these characters so special? When scoring a road or city where they are located, the mage increases the score by one point for each tile in the region, boosting your earnings! The witch, on the other hand, does the opposite: she halves the score, rounding up. It's a delicate balance between power and curse!

This expansion is perfect for those who already enjoy Carcassonne and want to add an extra layer of strategy and unpredictability. The new tiles introduce interesting decisions about where and when to use the mage or witch to maximize your points or hinder opponents. It's a small addition, but with a notable impact on the game's dynamics, ensuring each game is a bit more magical and challenging. If you're looking for new ways to interact with the board and surprise your friends, this dynamic duo is for you!

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need the base Carcassonne game to play?
Yes, absolutely! "Mage & Witch" is an expansion and only works in conjunction with the base Carcassonne game.
How many players does this expansion support?
The expansion itself doesn't change the player count. It works with your base Carcassonne's player count, which is typically 2 to 5 (or 6 with other expansions).
Does it significantly increase the game's complexity?
Not significantly. The addition of the Mage and Witch introduces some new decisions, but the core tile-placement and scoring mechanics remain the same. It's a manageable addition.
Are the Mage and Witch tiles easy to identify?
Yes, they have a distinct symbol (either the mage's or the witch's) that sets them apart from normal tiles, making them easy to spot when drawn.
Can the Mage and Witch occupy the same feature?
No, they cannot occupy the same road or city at the same time. If one is already there, the other cannot be placed or moved to that same location.
What happens when a feature with a Mage or Witch finishes scoring?
After scoring, the Mage or Witch is removed from the feature and placed next to the score track, awaiting a new Mage/Witch tile to be drawn for them to be repositioned.
Is it worth buying just for these two figures?
If you enjoy Carcassonne and are looking for ways to add a bit more interaction and tactical twists, yes! They offer an interesting dynamic without overcomplicating the game.
