If you're already a fan of Carcassonne, get ready to upgrade your medieval experience. The Traders & Builders expansion isn't just a small add-on; it introduces new strategic layers that make the competition much more intense. First, we have the goods: wine, cloth, and wheat. When cities are completed, you collect these resources, and the player with the most of each type earns a generous point bonus at the end. It adds a set collection element that forces you to think twice about where to place your next tile.
But the real star here is the Builder. This special meeple acts as a supervisor: if you place it on a road or city and then expand that same feature, you immediately get to place another tile! It's the perfect tool for finishing a project quickly or stealing an opponent's territory in the blink of an eye. For the farm lovers, there's the Pig, which boosts your farmers' scoring, turning each connected city into 4 points instead of the usual 3.
Beyond the rules, the expansion solves a classic problem by including a large cloth bag. It sounds simple, but it eliminates the annoyance of trying to guess the tile by its back (since different printings can vary). In total, there are 24 new tiles introducing bridges and new urban dynamics. The game becomes slightly more complex without losing its casual essence. You can mix it with the first expansion or play it strictly with the base game, adapting the experience to your group's preference. It's the ideal choice for those who feel the original game has become too predictable and want more interaction and move combos.

Do I need the base game to play?
Yes! This is an expansion, so you must own the original Carcassonne to use these new components.
Does it make the game much harder?
Not necessarily 'harder', but more strategic. The Builder allows for combos that change the pace of the game.
How many players can play with this expansion?
From 2 to 6 players, depending on how many meeples you have available.
What exactly does the Pig do?
It increases your farm's value: each city the farm serves is worth 4 points instead of 3.
Can I use it with other expansions?
Yes, it's compatible with the base game and the first expansion, allowing you to customize the complexity.
