About the game
What you do in a play session
Cat Saga: Tangled Tails is a cooperative game that puts up to four players in the paws of adventurous felines, the Catventurers, who must journey through five interlinked Sagas. Each Saga acts like a chapter of a larger story, and the choices made aloud affect the plot for the whole group. The system relies solely on paper, pencil, and dice, so there are no pricey components – just print, cut, and play.
The "Re‑rolling and Locking" mechanic lets players try to improve their rolls, locking successful results for future attempts. Each character wields unique abilities (Variable Player Powers), creating different strategies and encouraging teamwork. When the party faces a challenge, everyone rolls, applies modifiers, and, if needed, rerolls until they succeed, then locks the good result.
Narrative is the game’s soul: as the saga is read aloud, players pick paths, resolve conflicts, and collect valuable items. Decisions are recorded and may shift the Saga number, opening new routes or closing others. If any Catventurer hits zero health, the adventure ends for everyone – defeat is shared.
With a playtime of 30‑45 minutes, Cat Saga is quick enough for short sessions yet deep enough for story lovers. It also works solo, since the rules don’t rely on competitive interaction. The main drawback is the heavy language dependence; the original text is in English and requires an almost complete translation for non‑English groups. Overall, it offers a light, feline‑filled adventure full of dramatic choices, perfect for anyone who enjoys tabletop storytelling.
