About the game
Cheating Moth, also known as A Traça Batoteira, flips the idea of a ‘clean’ game on its head. Each match starts with all players holding eight cards, and the goal is to rid yourself of them before anyone else. The twist? You’re allowed – and even encouraged – to cheat. The only rule is that the Guard, the oldest player, can accuse others of cheating. If caught, the offender must reclaim the card they tried to discard and also take an extra card from the Guard’s hand. If the accusation is wrong, the Guard draws a card. The action cards are the spice: Ant forces everyone to draw, Cockroach triggers a race to play the same number, Mosquito makes the slowest player take cards from the others, and Spider lets you hand a non‑Cheating Moth card to someone else. Cheating Moth cards can’t be played on the discard pile, so the only way to get rid of them is by cheating. When a player reaches zero cards, the round ends. The remaining players score 10 points per Moth card, 5 per action card, and 1 per numbered card. After a number of rounds equal to the player count, the lowest score wins. The game is quick, lasting about 30 minutes, and requires a mix of cunning, timing, and a dash of madness. If you enjoy games that blend strategy, luck, and a playful edge, Cheating Moth is a fun and challenging pick.
