Game Objective
The challenge of proving your thieving skills now takes place in a new environment, where you must explore rooms—many of them completely flooded—while avoiding a very grumpy dragon. The goal is to explore the dungeon, collect treasures, and survive to win.
Setup
Clank! Sunken Treasures allows you to replace the base game board with a new one. Follow these steps for setup:
- Board and Market: Place the Market Board next to the main board and position all Market items on it. If using the Sunken Treasures board, add the two Diving Helmet tokens to the Market area.
- Secrets: Mix the new Big Secret (Potion of Heroism) and the Small Secrets (Potion of Strength and Treasure) with the original Secrets and place them on the board. The Sunken Treasures board has extra spaces for these items. (If using the base board, return the excess secrets to the box without revealing them).
- Dungeon Deck: Shuffle the 35 new Sunken Treasures cards into the Dungeon Deck.
- Monsters: Place the new Goldfish card in the reserve, next to the Goblin.
All other setup follows the base game rules.

Actions and How to Play
In addition to the base rules, the following mechanics and items are introduced:
Movement and Swimming
- Flooded Rooms: If you start your turn in a flooded room, you must surface to breathe. This means that at some point during your turn, you need to enter a room that is not flooded. If you end your turn without doing so, you take one point of damage (unless you possess the Diving Helmet). If you have no more cubes and take damage, you are knocked out.
- Flooded Tunnels: To move through tunnels between flooded rooms (marked with specific icons), you must spend two Boots, or only one Boot if you possess the Diving Helmet.
- Clank! Tunnels: Some tunnels have Clank! symbols. When crossing them, you must add the number of icons present in the tunnel to the Clank! Area (representing the "splash" when diving). Teleporting through these tunnels does not add Clank!. If you have no more cubes in your personal supply, you move without penalty.
Combat and Rewards
- Goldfish and Goblin: These monsters are not discarded when defeated. Each player can fight them multiple times during their turn, gaining the reward for each victory.
- Treasure Rooms: Upon entering rooms with the gold icon, you gain the indicated amount of gold.
Cards and Effects
- "When Discarded" Effect: Some cards activate effects when they are discarded during the turn. This happens, for example, when using a card that asks to "discard a card" (such as Sleight of Hand). You do NOT receive these effects at the end of the turn (when cards go to the game area's discard pile) or when acquiring the card via an ability.
- Optional Discard: Discarding is generally not optional, but you can avoid it by playing a "discard" card last if you have no more cards in hand to discard; in this case, you do not receive the card's benefits.
Items and Secrets
- Diving Helmet: A Market item that costs 7 gold coins. It prevents you from taking damage for not breathing and reduces the movement cost in flooded tunnels to one Boot.
- Potion of Heroism (Big Secret): When used during your turn, it generates 1 Boot, 1 Sword, and heals 1 damage. After use, the card is returned to the box.
End of Game and Scoring
Refer to the manual for details on this section. The Diving Helmet is worth 5 points at the end of the game.
Tips for Winning
- Breath Management: Plan your movement to ensure you enter a non-flooded room before the end of your turn to avoid damage, or invest in the Diving Helmet to negate this penalty.
- Movement Optimization: Use the Diving Helmet to save Boots when navigating flooded tunnels, allowing you to explore more of the dungeon with fewer resources.
