About the game
What you do in a play session
Clockwork Wars: Gulag & Dynamo Bonus Tiles is the second bonus tile set released for the Clockwork Wars Kickstarter. It brings four new tiles: two Gulag tiles and two Dynamo tiles. Gulag tiles act as lethal traps: when an enemy soldier steps onto one, they are captured and removed from the game, potentially turning the tide of a battle. Dynamo tiles, on the other hand, are pure scoring opportunities, offering extra points that can swing the game in favor of whoever controls them. The expansion also includes a double-sided reference card made from thick cardboard, containing all the necessary rules so you can use the new components without digging through the full rulebook. In gameplay terms, Clockwork Wars already blends several classic war‑game mechanics: area majority/influence, where the majority of units in a region decides control; modular board, allowing the board to be set up differently each play; secret unit deployment, adding surprise by hiding the location of certain troops; variable player powers, giving each player distinct abilities; and worker placement, requiring players to assign workers to limited spaces to execute actions. The expansion keeps the game weight at about 3/5 on BGG, with game time still variable but generally between 30 and 60 minutes, depending on player count (2‑5). The steampunk and strategy war‑game fan community often finds Clockwork Wars very fun, and the addition of Gulag and Dynamo tiles adds an extra layer of tension and territorial scoring strategy that can be decisive in high‑level play. If you’ve already played the base and want something that boosts replayability and tactical depth, this expansion is a solid pick, especially for those who enjoy capture mechanics and territory bonuses.
