About the game

What you do in a play session

Hey everyone! How about transforming that somewhat dull Christmas gift exchange into a lively, strategic battle full of surprises? Coal & Chaos is here to spice up your holidays, blending the excitement of opening presents with a healthy dose of festive chaos. The concept is simple yet addictive: each player competes for the gifts they most desire while managing a limited supply of Coal Tokens. These tokens are key to controlling the fate of presents, deciding whether you keep a wrapped gift or pass it on. Player order is random, adding an extra layer of unpredictability. When opening a gift, the decision is yours: embrace what you got or spend your precious Coal Tokens to get rid of it. And don't think it's just about passing it to the next person! You can send the gift clockwise, reverse direction, or even toss it across the room to someone else, but beware: each of these maneuvers comes with an increasing cost in Coal Tokens. The brilliant twist is that every time a gift is passed, it gains an extra Coal Token. This means the more a present gets rejected, the more valuable and tempting it becomes for whoever receives it. It's a 'hot potato' mechanic with a strategic twist that keeps you engaged the entire time, even when it's not your turn. There's no scoring or traditional winner here; the goal is simply to navigate the pandemonium and finish the round with a gift you genuinely want to take home. Get ready for plenty of laughs, negotiation, and unexpected surprises!
