About the game

What you do in a play session

Cockroach Salad is a card game that blends speed, bluffing and a dash of humor. Each player gets a deck of 128 cards – 120 vegetable cards (lettuce, pepper, tomato, cauliflower) and eight “taboo” cards, each featuring a cockroach. On your turn you flip the top card, lay it on the central pile and loudly call out the vegetable. But watch out: if the vegetable you play matches the one just played or the one the previous player claimed, you must lie. If it’s a taboo card, shout “Cockroach!” and the next player starts a new pile beside the first, leaving the taboo card exposed. If you play a vegetable that’s already visible on a taboo card, you also have to lie. A mistake, hesitation or a long pause forces you to pick up all the cards in that pile. The goal is to be the first to run out of cards – a sprint of bluffs that demands quick thinking and attention. The game lasts 10‑20 minutes, works for 2‑6 players and has a high humor factor, perfect for fans of light card games with a touch of craziness. The cockroach food theme gives it a quirky charm that only Gigamic can deliver. If you enjoy fast‑paced, bluff‑heavy games with a bit of silliness, Cockroach Salad is the one for you.

What makes it stand out is the combination of “speed matching” and pattern recognition. You have to remember quickly which cards have been played and whether they match what’s being declared. The taboo mechanic adds another layer of strategy: taboo cards stay visible and can force players to lie, creating tension and fun. The artwork is simple, but the cockroach theme gives a comedic flair that makes the game memorable.

While it’s a super quick card game, it isn’t for those looking for deep strategic depth. It’s more about reactivity, bluffing and humor. If you like games that play in a few minutes and make you laugh while trying to trick friends, Cockroach Salad is a great pick. If you prefer something calmer or with more robust rules, it might not be your style. But for a night of quick laughs and bluff competition, it’s spot on.
