About the game

What you do in a play session

Get ready for monumental battles with the sixth expansion for Commands & Colors Napoleonics, "EPIC Napoleonics"! If you thought the base game was already epic, just wait until you see what this beauty brings. Here, the scale shifts to truly grand battles, allowing you to command larger armies and more units in scenarios ranging from the classic Austerlitz to "EPIC" and "La Grande Battles" engagements.

The cool part is that, despite the increased scale, the game's essence remains. The basic rules stay the same, but with a special twist. The major innovation is the "Epic Battles" system, which doubles the size of the standard battlefield, and the "La Grande Battles" system, which combines two boards for a gigantic combat arena. To manage all this madness, we have the "CIC" (Commander In Chief) system, where one player on each side assumes the role of supreme commander. Each CIC plays a Command card and another from the "Courier rack" to issue orders. This "Courier rack" is a new and super interesting mechanic: a set of cards visible to both players, which dwindles each turn, forcing sharper tactical choices. The game comes with double-sided mounted maps, ready for action, along with six standard scenarios focusing on Austerlitz, plus 12 "EPIC" scenarios and two "La Grande Battles" scenarios.

To get the most out of this expansion, using the "Command" and "Tactician" card decks from the "Generals, Marshals and Tacticians" expansion is highly recommended. Remember that "EPIC Napoleonics" is an expansion and requires the base game "Commands & Colors Napoleonics" and its previous expansions to play most scenarios. The expansion itself provides additional units and terrain to fill in any gaps.

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers before you buy

6 questions
Do I need the base game Commands & Colors Napoleonics to play this expansion?
Yes, absolutely! "EPIC Napoleonics" is an expansion and requires the base game "Commands & Colors Napoleonics" and most of its previous expansions to play the proposed scenarios.
What are the main new features of this expansion?
The expansion introduces significantly larger battle boards (EPIC and La Grande Battles), the "Commander In Chief" (CIC) system, and the new "Courier rack" mechanic for issuing orders to your troops.
How many players can participate in an "EPIC Napoleonics" game?
The base game supports 2 players, but this expansion, with its larger scenarios, can accommodate up to 8 players, with each taking on a specific command role.
Does the game become much more complex with these new rules?
The complexity increases slightly due to the scale and new command mechanics, but the core of the C&C Napoleonics gameplay remains. It's more about managing a larger theater of operations.
Do I need any other expansions besides the base game to get the most out of it?
It is highly recommended to have the "Generals, Marshals and Tacticians" expansion to use the "Command" and "Tactician" card decks, which complement the new command mechanics of the EPIC expansion.
Does the game come with enough units and boards for all scenarios?
The "EPIC Napoleonics" expansion provides additional units and terrain to fill gaps, but for most EPIC and La Grande Battles scenarios, you will need pieces from the base game and other expansions.
