Cosmolancer is the space‑age remix of a 1994 classic that previously appeared as Auf Heller und Pfennig and Kingdoms. Instead of medieval fiefs, you play a freelance photographer hopping between star systems to snap spectacular scenes. The board is a 5 × 6 grid and the game runs over three rounds. At the start of each round every player draws a secret tile. On your turn you may either place that tile on the board, keep a tile in your hand, or drop one of your numbered tokens (1‑4) onto an empty space. Once the board is full, scoring kicks in: each token scores its number multiplied by the sum of the tiles in its row and column. Certain special tiles cancel positive values or split a row into two sections, creating "cut" opportunities. Tokens showing a 1 return to the owner for the next round, while the others are removed, making token placement a key decision. After three rounds the highest total wins. The game blends tile‑placement strategy with quick arithmetic, all in under an hour. Components are straightforward – paper/card tiles and plastic tokens – but the sci‑fi artwork adds a nice flair. Perfect for players who enjoy light‑weight mental challenges, fast games, and a theme that departs from the usual medieval vibe.
