How to Play Coup: Reformation

Game Objective

In Coup: Reformation, players take on the roles of political factions vying for control during a rebellion. The government desperately tries to maintain power while the Resistance gains popularity. Players must eliminate rivals by bluffing, scheming, and manipulating allegiances. The last player with influence (character cards) wins.

Setup

Changes from base Coup:

  • Place the Treasury Reserve Card in the center.
  • Deal each player an Allegiance Card (Loyalist or Reformist).
  • Starting player chooses a faction (Loyalist/Reformist) and places their Allegiance Card face-up. Subsequent players must choose the opposite faction from the player before them.

Use base Coup setup for other components. Consulte o manual para detalhes sobre esta seção.

Game Flow

Follow base Coup turn structure with these key changes:

  • Players cannot use Coup, Assassinate, Steal, or Block Foreign Aid against players of the same faction (unless all players share the same faction).

Actions and How to Play

Additional Actions:

Conversion:

  • Pay 1 coin to flip your own Allegiance Card.
  • Pay 2 coins to flip another player's Allegiance Card.
  • Paid coins go on the Treasury Reserve Card.

Embezzlement:

  • If you don't have the Duke, take all coins from the Treasury Reserve.
  • Any player may challenge this action.
  • If challenged and you have the Duke: You must admit it and lose the challenge (coins return to Treasury, lose 1 influence).
  • If challenged without the Duke (and don't admit): Reveal all influence cards. Challenger loses. Shuffle revealed cards into the Court Deck and redraw.

Inquisitor Variant:

Replace all Ambassador cards with Inquisitor cards. Inquisitors can:

  • Exchange: Swap 1 card with the Court Deck (optional).
  • Examine: Force another player to show/replace 1 facedown card.
  • Can block Steal as a counteraction.

End Game and Scoring

The game ends when only one player retains influence (character cards). No points are counted - last standing wins. Follow base Coup elimination rules. Consulte o manual para detalhes sobre esta seção.

Tips to Win

  1. Use Conversion strategically to isolate players from your faction's protection.
  2. Bluff Embezzlement early when the Treasury has few coins to minimize risk.
  3. In 6+ player games, the Inquisitor's Examine ability becomes more valuable for information control.
