How to Play Death Roads: All Stars – Expansion 1: Goons and Guns

Objective of the Game

Death Roads: All Stars – Expansion 1: Goons and Guns introduces new mechanics to the base game, allowing players to enhance their vehicles and strategies. The core objective remains to outmaneuver and outgun opponents in a high-octane vehicular combat scenario. Players will utilize new Sidekicks, powerful Glitch Weapons, and tactical Net and Buildup mechanics to gain an advantage and tear down their opponents' vehicles. The expansion can be used with any other game mode and expansion, offering diverse ways to achieve victory through destructive and strategic gameplay.

Preparation (Setup)

New Drivers and Weapons

Add the new Driver boards and Weapon cards from this expansion to the respective pools of Weapons and Drivers from the base game. Some of these will utilize the new Glitch, Net, and Buildup mechanics.

Sidekicks

Set up the game as usual. After choosing Weapon cards, each player, starting from the last player and going to the first, picks one Sidekick card and places it face up near their Driver board.

Glitch cards

Shuffle all Glitch cards together to create the Glitch deck. Place it face down near the board.

Sidekicks

Each Sidekick card provides a useful skill or action to its owner, similar to a Driver. These skills or actions can be used to enhance your vehicle or disrupt opponents.

Glitch cards

When you are hit with a Weapon and must suffer its effect, draw that many Glitch cards and place them face-up near your Vehicle board. You must obey the effects of these Glitch cards until they are discarded.

To discard a Glitch card, you must spend one of your Actions (either a Driver Action or a Card Action) and suffer 2 damage. Once discarded, place the Glitch card onto the common Glitch cards discard pile.

If the Glitch deck runs out of cards, reshuffle the Glitch cards discard pile to create a new Glitch deck. In the rare event that no Glitch cards are available in either the Glitch deck or the Glitch cards discard pile, instead of drawing a new card, you suffer 2 damage.

Net Status token

Each time you move forward any number of spaces, your Vehicle suffers 1 damage for each Net token you have. Unlike regular status tokens, Net tokens are not discarded after you resolve their effect or after your "Apply status tokens" phase.

The only way to remove Net tokens is to perform a Focus action. When you perform Focus, simply return all your Net tokens to their pile.

Buildup

Some Weapons allow you to draw a Buildup token after use. These Weapons have an effect that becomes stronger with each Buildup token you possess. When you encounter a buildup symbol instead of a number in an effect, use the current number of Buildup tokens you have. Buildup tokens stack for different weapons, making it beneficial to accumulate more of them. Buildup is not a status, and there is no way to discard Buildup tokens.
