About the game

What you do in a play session

Defenders of the Realm: Hero Expansion #1 delivers a major upgrade for fans of miniature action and tactical play. Four new heroes arrive with detailed miniatures and character cards that broaden strategic options: Captain of the Guard, who can command other units; the Assassin, who delivers stealthy attacks and the final blow; the Chaos Wizard, who casts powerful but risky spells; and the Adventurer, who collects treasures and completes side quests. In addition to the heroes, the expansion includes six global effect cards that dramatically alter gameplay and five bonus tokens to use with the base game. A Paladin miniature replaces the original base game piece, keeping the aesthetic consistent. Gameplay remains cooperative, requiring all players to face hordes of enemies together. Each turn is organized around action points, letting players choose between moving, attacking, or using special abilities. Dice rolls determine the success of actions, while hand management makes each card play a strategic decision. Complexity stays moderate, ideal for groups with some miniature experience looking to deepen the narrative. If you enjoy tactical combat, well-designed miniatures, and want to expand your hero collection, this expansion delivers exactly that, with a bite of extra content that keeps the game fresh and challenging.
