About the game
What you do in a play session
Get ready to expand your adventures in Descent: Journeys in the Dark (Second Edition) with the Oath of the Outcast expansion! This gem brings back four heroes who made history in the first edition: Trenloe the Strong, Laurel of Bloodwood, Elder Mok, and Shiver. They arrive ready to face new challenges and bring extra flavor to your campaigns.
But don't think the fun is just for the good guys! The expansion also introduces three new monster groups that will give the Overlord a headache (or the heroes, depending on your perspective): the fearsome bane spiders, the brutal beastmen, and the agile razorwings. With seven new miniatures in total, the battlefield becomes much more interesting!
In addition to new characters and creatures, Oath of the Outcast adds two brand-new quests: the one that gives the expansion its name, 'Oath of the Outcast', and 'Prison of Ice and Lies'. In these quests, you'll have to stop a dark ritual aimed at resurrecting powerful undead warriors. It's the perfect chance to test your tactics, manage your cards and abilities well, and roll those dice hoping for a favorable outcome.
This expansion is a great addition for those who already enjoy the base game and want more content, especially if you missed these classic heroes and monsters. The action point and grid movement mechanics remain strong, ensuring that tactical experience we love. If you enjoy fantasy, exploration, and combat with miniatures, and don't mind a good narrative challenge, this expansion is for you!

Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers before you buy
Do I need the base game Descent: Journeys in the Dark (Second Edition) to play this expansion?
Yes, absolutely! Oath of the Outcast is an expansion and requires the base game to be played.
How many players can participate with this expansion?
Just like the base game, this expansion is for 2 to 5 players.
What is the average playtime?
Playtime varies quite a bit depending on the quest and player experience, but it's generally between 1 to 3 hours per session.
Does the expansion add a lot of new components?
Yes, it includes 4 hero miniatures, 3 monster groups (with multiple miniatures each), and components for new quests.
Is it difficult to learn?
If you already know the base game rules, adapting is smooth. The new quests might have specific challenges, but the core mechanics are the same.
Is it worth it for someone who already has many expansions?
If you miss these specific heroes and monsters or want more quests with a 'dark ritual' theme, then yes, it's worth it. Otherwise, it might be a more niche expansion.
Do I need to translate anything to play in English?
The game has a significant language dependency, with many cards and rules that need to be understood. Having official or fan-made translations available is highly recommended if English isn't your first language.
