About the game

What you do in a play session

Get ready to dive headfirst into another dark adventure with Descent: The Altar of Despair! This expansion supercharges the base game with a ton of new stuff: six brand-new heroes, each with their own tricks and special abilities to get you out of jams, and five new monster types to give the Overlord a headache (or give you one, depending on which side of the table you're on!).

The story throws us back into a distant past, where dark cults are trying to resurrect an evil power. Naturally, the good guys won't stand for it, and that's where you come in! Your mission is to defend the world from these dark forces, facing dangers that would make even the bravest tremble. Think crushing walls, bizarre curses, and sneaky assassins waiting in the shadows, all before you even reach the unholy temples of Zorek.

But don't despair! This expansion also brings new tricks for the Overlord, like dark glyphs and relics that add extra spice to his strategy. With over twenty new plastic miniatures, the game's visual appeal gets even more epic. If you enjoy a good dose of fantasy, adventure, dice rolling, and a challenge that tests your role-playing skills and varied powers, this expansion is a treat. Just remember that the base game is essential to play and that the language dependency is high, so brush up on your English or wait for a translation!

Remember that this is an expansion, so you need the base game Descent: Journeys in the Dark to play. The game is quite long, so set aside ample time for your adventure sessions and prepare for many twists and turns!
