Game Objective
The Character Traits module serves to customize your characters in any Destinies scenario. The objective is to use a set of special abilities to make the game more asymmetrical, allowing each player to have extra powers that change how they play with their character.
Preparation (Setup)
To start playing with this module, follow these steps:
- Digital Configuration: In the app, during character selection for the chosen scenario, activate the 'Character Trait' button.
- Trait Selection: During character preparation, each player must select a Trait. Draw four cards from the top of the Trait deck and choose one to keep near your player board. The other three must be returned to the Trait deck, which should then be shuffled. (Note: If all players agree, it is possible to choose any Trait they wish instead of using the drawing method).
- Character Components: Each player will have their Character Trait card and can use Destiny Markers to activate certain abilities.
Game Flow
The game flow follows the standard rules of the chosen scenario, but with the addition of the Character Traits mechanics. Refer to the manual for details on this section.
Actions and How to Play
Character Traits should be used whenever applicable, unless stated otherwise. There are three types of Trait cards:
Talent
Talent Traits provide abilities that, once Awakened, remain active for the rest of the scenario.
- How to Awaken: You must gather 3 Destiny Markers, gained by fulfilling the criteria described at the top of the card. After placing the 3 Destiny Markers on the card, the Trait becomes Awakened.
- Restriction: Once the Trait is Awakened, the player can no longer gain Destiny Markers for this trait.
Focus
Focus Traits offer powerful abilities that require spending a Destiny Marker whenever you wish to use them.
- Start of Game: These traits begin the game with 3 Destiny Markers already available on the card.
- Restore: After spending a Destiny Marker, you can Restore the markers by following the rules detailed at the bottom of your Trait card.
Luck
Luck Traits offer abilities that are always active (can be used at any time) or that automatically trigger whenever specific conditions are met. Some may come with disadvantages to balance the effect.
Destiny Marker Mechanic
Destiny Markers are resources used by some traits:
- Gain: When gaining a Destiny Marker, place it in the designated space on your Trait card. If all spaces on the card are already occupied, ignore the rule of gaining more.
- Spend: When spending a Destiny Marker, remove it from your Trait card and return it to the box.
- Note: Destiny Markers can be gained and spent whenever applicable, and the effect is resolved as quickly as possible.
