About the game
What you do in a play session
Divinare, released in 2012, puts players in the role of Victorian mediums competing in a divination tournament. The game uses a themed deck divided into four types of divination cards—chiromancy, crystallomancy, tasseomancy, and astromancy—representing different methods of foretelling the future. In each round, only two-thirds of the cards are dealt and revealed gradually, allowing players to gather clues about the composition of the deck in play.
The goal is simple: predict the exact number of each type of card remaining in play. Exact guesses earn the highest points, close guesses receive fewer points, and critical mistakes result in penalties. Players can bet points on their predictions, combining risk and bluff. The memory mechanic comes into play as players must remember which cards have already been revealed and which may still appear, while hand management forces decisions about which cards to keep or discard throughout the turn.
Divinare supports 2 to 4 players, with games lasting about 30 minutes. The blend of bluff, memory, and deduction creates a fast, unpredictable gaming experience, ideal for groups that enjoy testing wit and perception. Components are simple: a 48-card themed deck, betting chips, and score markers. The artistic design evokes a Victorian atmosphere, with card illustrations reminiscent of ancient manuscripts and mystical symbols.
While the game is approachable, it requires constant attention and can be a bit challenging for those not accustomed to bluffing games. In noisy environments or with distractions, memory can suffer, making the experience less enjoyable. However, for those who love card games that demand quick thinking and bluffing strategy, Divinare offers hours of fun and friendly competition.
