If you're the kind of person who can't resist a puppy, Dogs puts you in charge of a kennel with the mission of turning it into the most welcoming and efficient shelter in town. But don't let the cuteness fool you: managing a shelter requires strategy and strict resource control to ensure no one is left behind.
The game runs in cycles of three well-defined phases. First, you take the wheel of your truck and navigate between the City and the Field. The goal here is to rescue lost and abandoned dogs. Some bring immediate rewards, while others, of various breeds, require medical care and food, but these are the ones that guarantee high scores at the end of the game. It's a race to see who gets there first to save the pet!
After the rescue, we enter the management phase. You'll need to choose special cards and visit strategic locations such as City Hall, the Warehouse, the Pet Shop, the Veterinary Clinic, and the Dog Show. The catch is that these places have limited slots; if you take too long to decide, another player might occupy the space and leave you out in the cold. Here, the management of four essential resources — money, gasoline, food, and medicine — is what separates a successful kennel from administrative chaos. If supplies run low, penalties hit hard.
To close the round, it's time for maintenance: feeding the dogs, paying your assistants' salaries, and organizing the board for the next cycle. Victory goes to whoever can balance rescue logistics with shelter maintenance, accumulating the highest score over the rounds. It's a light eurogame, but it requires constant attention so you don't run out of gas just as you're about to save a puppy!
