About the game
What you do in a play session
Dual Gauge: Honshu & Wisconsin Maps arrives as the first official expansion for Dual Gauge, delivering two wildly different boards to shake up train‑gaming strategies. The Honshu map, based on Japan’s largest island, is tight, unforgiving and cash‑starved: terrain is harsh and every decision matters. Players race to industrialise the region, turning low‑paying dits into profitable cities – and anyone who fails incurs end‑game penalties. Cities can be tokened, creating choke points that can trap unwary opponents. In contrast, the Wisconsin map offers a “big‑money” experience. It’s larger, more open and introduces nine 5T diesel locomotives that can run unlimited distances along compatible track, allowing triple‑digit runs in the final operating rounds. Yet a sudden gauge or station change can halt your diesel mid‑journey. The expansion also adds the Company Charter cards, first printed with the 2021 re‑release of the base game, giving extra investment and route‑control options. Core mechanics – auction, network building and stock holding – remain, but each map adds its own risk‑reward layer, ensuring 3‑5 player games run 60‑90 minutes with a moderate complexity (4/5). If you love plotting routes, placing winning bids and playing the role of a railway magnate, these two scenarios will test both your eye for opportunity and your patience with unexpected obstacles.
