About the game
What you do in a play session
Dungeoneer: Vault of the Fiends brings the thrill of a subterranean expedition to the table, blending cards, dice, and a board that reshapes each game. It’s for 2 to 4 players and can be played solo or in conjunction with Dungeoneer: Tomb of the Lich Lord, though the previous game isn’t required to enjoy the experience. Each player selects one of six heroes—Elf Assassin, Human Beastmaster, Drakan Sentinel, Ork Shaman, Dwarf Runecaster, or Gnome Illusionist—each with unique abilities and stats (strength, magic, speed). Additionally, one player can take on the role of Dungeonlord, the villain trying to eliminate the other heroes. A hero’s goal is to complete three quests, such as destroying a demonic laboratory or rescuing a princess; the Dungeonlord wins if they are the last survivor. On a turn, players spend action points to move their heroes across the modular board, gather Glory and Peril resources, play monsters, traps, and events that affect opponents, and use treasure and ability cards. Dice rolls determine combat outcomes, where the sum of the die and the hero’s attribute (Melee or Magic) must beat the opponent’s roll. Cards act as permanents and instant‑type effects, allowing strategic combos, but the game isn’t purely strategic; the surprise of unexpected events and thematic interaction are what most captivate. Dungeoneer: Vault of the Fiends introduces additional mechanics, such as “pumpable” monsters that can be powered up with resources, conditions that change as quests are completed, and “artifact quests” that rotate to reveal bonuses. In short, the game offers 30 minutes of adventure, a mix of cards and dice, and a fun experience for those who love RPGs and dungeon exploration.
