DVONN is an abstract strategy game that puts logic and foresight front and center. The board, an elongated hexagonal shape, starts empty and each player has 23 white, 23 black, and 3 red DVONN pieces. The first phase is placement: each player puts their DVONN pieces first, followed by their normal pieces, with no placement restrictions. After that comes the fun part: stacking. You can move a single piece one space in any direction, but if you stack two pieces, the entire stack moves two spaces, and so on. The catch is that every stack must be moved as a whole and the move must end on top of another piece or stack. If a stack loses contact with the DVONN pieces, it is removed. The game ends when no more moves are possible, and the player with the tallest stack wins. DVONN is part of the GIPF Project, so if you love deep strategy, you’ll fall in love. It’s quick, usually 30 minutes, and perfect for a two‑player duel that likes to think a few steps ahead. Components are simple: plastic pieces and a sturdy board, so you don’t have to worry about losing parts. If you enjoy clean, focused strategy, DVONN is your next pick.
