Eclipse: Rise of the Ancients arrives as the first full‑size expansion for the classic 4X space epic. As the galactic war rages on, new factions emerge and suddenly empty systems become swarmed by the Ancients – ancient civilizations whose fleets dwarf any human tech. They won’t negotiate, so empires must forge temporary alliances to survive. The expansion adds Rare Technologies, unique Developments, diplomatic Alliances, Ancient Homeworlds and Warp Portals that reshape the map. It also brings three new player boards and four brand‑new alien species, each with asymmetric powers. Thanks to the modular design you can use everything or just a slice, tailoring the game to your taste. The biggest headline is the ability to play with up to nine people, turning each session into a massive cosmic showdown of strategy and bargaining. Familiar mechanics – area control, movement, dice rolling, tile placement and variable powers – gain fresh depth thanks to alliances and portals. In short, Rise of the Ancients broadens Eclipse’s universe, offering more strategic options, more players, and a looming threat that forces everyone to either unite or be devoured. If you love the base game, get ready for even more epic, chaotic battles.
