In El Burro you take on the role of a farmer on Mallorca, tasked with turning your agricultural output into goods ready for the port of Palma. The game spans four rounds, during which you play multi‑use cards, draw dice one at a time, and use the symbols to perform actions such as planting, harvesting, selling, or transporting. Cards are versatile: they can act as resources, actions, or parts of contracts that award extra points when fulfilled. The open dice‑drafting mechanic, borrowed from La Granja, lets you pick the best available symbol, but also forces you to plan because dice are limited.
Beyond standard deliveries, the game introduces donkey cards that can speed up transports or create special delivery opportunities. You may ship your goods to your own market stalls or to local markets, each with different requirements that grant bonus points. At the end of the four rounds, special cards and completed contracts add final points, and the player with the highest total wins.
El Burro also includes a well‑designed solo mode, where the deck and dice generate automatic challenges, perfect for solo play. Variable set‑up ensures the board and card layout change each game, boosting replayability. With a weight of 4.08/5, the game blends hand‑management strategy, economic planning, and a dash of humor via the donkeys, all in a playtime that ranges from 75 to 150 minutes depending on the player count (1‑4).
