About the game
What you do in a play session
Get ready, folks! Empire Builder is that classic that throws you right into the world of railroad construction in North America. The idea is simple: you start with some cash and use it to draw your own train routes on the map with washable crayons – yes, you draw your empire! After laying down your tracks, the mission is to pick up commodities from production sites (mines, farms, etc.) and deliver them where they're in demand, all to earn some cash. With the money you make, you can expand your network, buy more powerful and faster trains, and get closer to dominating the railway market. The game features demand cards that dictate what to deliver and where, and occasionally an event card can shake things up. Each turn has two parts: one to operate your trains and make deliveries, and another to invest in more tracks or upgrade your fleet. The main goal? Be the first to connect six out of the seven major cities on the map and accumulate a fortune of $250 million. It's a game that requires strategy to optimize routes and deliveries, but it has a touch of nostalgia and fun because of this unique map-drawing mechanic. Perfect for those who enjoy economic games with a twist and aren't afraid to get their hands dirty (or chalky!).
