If you enjoyed the vibe of Scythe, get ready: Expeditions takes you deep into the frozen wilds of Siberia, but don't be fooled—it's not just 'more of the same.' The story revolves around a colossal meteorite that crashed near the Tunguska River, awakening an ancient corruption that is transforming the region. While Dr. Tarkovsky leads the official expedition, you take on the role of war heroes who, driven by a thirst for glory and adventure, privately fund their own incursions to brave the taiga.
Although it aims to capture the same feeling of discovery and progression as its predecessor, Expeditions completely changes the gears. Here, the game is card-driven and focused on engine-building. You'll manage your hand to gain power, guile, and unique abilities for your workers. Exploration happens by moving your mech to mysterious locations, revealing tiles and collecting valuable cards found along the way.
The heart of the game lies in upgrading your mech: you'll use workers, items, meteorite fragments, and quest completion to make your machine increasingly powerful. But beware, for the corruption is real, and you'll need plenty of power and guile to vanquish it and ensure your name goes down in history. It is a competitive, strategic game with a slightly darker, more supernatural tone, where every decision on which card to play or where to move your mech can be the difference between eternal glory and being forgotten in the Siberian ice.
