About the game
What you do in a play session
Get ready for a quick dose of intrigue and power in Game of Thrones: Westeros Intrigue, a card game crafted by the master Reiner Knizia! Here, the struggle for the Iron Throne isn't for the faint of heart, but for those who know how to play their cards shrewdly. Each game unfolds over a series of rounds where you and your rivals try to maneuver for control of Westeros.
In each round, you'll play character cards from your hand onto the court in King's Landing. The play seems simple, but placement rules are crucial: the first cards form the base, and subsequent ones must match the House of one of the two cards below them. Houses like Stark, Lannister, Baratheon, and Targaryen make up the deck, and the strategy lies in knowing when and how to use your loyal characters. Tension builds as the court takes shape, and whoever can no longer make a legal move is eliminated from the round. The last player to play a card wins the round, and this victory comes with a price... or rather, a reward! Winners gain an Iron Throne card, which cancels penalty points. Those left behind accumulate these points based on the cards still in their hand.
The game proceeds for a number of rounds equal to the number of players. Throughout these rounds, you accumulate penalty points for cards left in hand, but you can mitigate them by winning rounds and securing your Iron Throne. In the end, the player with the fewest penalty points is crowned the grand victor of intrigue in Westeros. It's a fast-paced game, ideal for those who want a taste of Game of Thrones' politics and twists without getting bogged down for hours. Perfect for filling that gap before your next main game or for a quick duel among friends.
