About the game
What you do in a play session
Remember that period in the pharmaceutical industry known as the 'Miracle Year'? Well, the patents for those revolutionary drugs are expiring, and the race for generics has officially begun! In Generic Taking, you step into the laboratory to compete for who can bring the most efficient medication to market first. But don't think it's just about throwing cards around: things get tricky here!
The game utilizes the classic trick-taking mechanic, but with a very specific strategic twist. In each round, a brand-name drug is revealed, setting the color or number you need to match to score points. The secret lies in skillfully managing your hand to win the right tricks, but there's a catch that could ruin all your plans: side effects. There are four types of side effects that act as a crucial third element in your decision-making. If you win a trick using a card that shares the same side effect as the original drug, forget about the points! You'll win the round, but you won't score anything.
It is a game of pure reading the table and risk management. You have to decide whether it's worth spending a strong card to secure the trick or if it's better to let your opponent take the hit while you preserve your resources. With quick sessions lasting around 20 minutes, it's the perfect type of game to kick off a game night or for those seeking a fast dose of intellectual competition without needing a 50-page manual. Put on your lab coats, manage your side effects, and good luck in the Great Generic Era!
