About the game
What you do in a play session
Kilforth is a dark realm teeming with horrific monsters, mysterious strangers, and treacherous locations. At its heart lies The Sprawl, a sprawling city that serves as the launchpad for heroes seeking fame and fortune. Factions such as the noble Order of the Rose and the fearsome Doom Guard vie for power, while the Overlord Masklaw watches from the shadows. When a deadly Gloom settles over the land, adventurers must cut through the darkness, gather mysterious artifacts, learn spells, and defeat powerful foes to stop an ancient evil from consuming the world. Gloom of Kilforth is a high‑fantasy card game with a gothic flavor, designed for 1‑4 players who can cooperate or play solo. Playtime ranges from 60 to 180 minutes, depending on player count and mission complexity. The game blends dice rolling, modular board layout, set collection, and variable hero powers, offering a hybrid of RPG storytelling and strategic decision‑making. Components include decks of hero, enemy, location, artifact and spell cards, life tokens, Gloom markers, and a set of custom dice. As the narrative unfolds, players level up their characters, unlock unique abilities, and gear up for the climactic showdown against a final boss. The pace is flexible: smaller groups can finish an adventure in about an hour, while full campaigns may stretch to three hours. It earned praise for its narrative depth, replayability via modular boards, and for being one of the top solo games of 2017.
