About the game
What you do in a play session
In "HeroQuest: Return of the Witch Lord", the guild mentor arrives with a grim warning: the Witch Lord survived and is hiding in the ruins of the ancient city of Kalos. The city, destroyed long ago by Morcar, was handed over to the villain as a refuge, where he built an underground stronghold that shields his creatures from daylight. When his power is fully restored, he will rally an undead army to assault the Empire, and only brave heroes or powerful mages will dare to stand against him.
The expansion adds a Quest Book containing ten adventures that must be played sequentially, providing an epic, progressive campaign. It includes 16 citadel miniatures – four zombies, four mummies and eight skeletons – all finely detailed to bring the setting (or its dead) to life. New full‑colour board overlays and punch‑outs enrich the map: two folded entrance/exit doors, a revolving room, four spirit rider tombs, a death mist, pit trap tokens, secret door tokens and fallen rubble tokens.
Gameplay blends roll‑or‑spin movement with team‑based play, where each hero possesses variable powers that shape combat tactics. Exploring Kalos requires the party to uncover paths, dodge traps and battle waves of undead, all under the ticking narrative pressure of the game master.
With an approximate playtime of two hours and a light weight (2.2/5), the expansion suits 2‑5 players, preserving the tactical and cooperative feel that made the classic HeroQuest beloved. If you enjoy fantasy adventures, dungeon exploration and strategic fights, "Return of the Witch Lord" offers a satisfying continuation without overcomplicating the rules.
