About the game

What you do in a play session

High Bohn Plus arrives as the first official expansion for Bohnanza, adding two fresh twists to the bean‑trading chaos. The first addition is two new bean types – the classy Cognac and the hearty Field – which broaden the set‑collection possibilities for players. The "High Bohn" module (best with 3‑5 players) introduces a Virginia City building market: players can spend their thalers on structures that grant special tactics, such as extra harvest bonuses or trade advantages. The "Plus" side brings Field Beans, enabling a third planting field in games of 4‑5 players, and Order cards that reward players with extra thalers when they fulfill very specific requests. Note that, despite the box stating support for 2‑7 players, the official rules do not cover a two‑player setup, so the experience may feel unbalanced there. Overall, the expansion preserves Bohnanza's core – rigid hand management, intense negotiations, and bean set collection – while adding tactical layers that please those who like a bit of planning without losing the pandemonium. If you already love the base game, these new components will give your rounds a nice boost, but players looking for a radical overhaul might find the changes more incremental than revolutionary.
