If you enjoy the core loop of It's a Wonderful World, the 'War or Peace' expansion takes the experience to the next level by turning the game into a narrative journey. Instead of standalone matches, you'll dive into a campaign divided into scenarios where your choices actually matter. Across five missions, players make decisions that tip the scales of the world toward diplomatic peace or the chaos of a global war.
The gameplay flow is quite intriguing: for each scenario, you open an envelope containing the story, specific rules, and exclusive cards. The best part is that the outcome of each game—whether you won or lost, and the choices you made—grants rewards that shape your 'Heritage'. This progress builds up scenario by scenario, and the overall campaign winner is whoever wins the final mission.
Interestingly, the story isn't linear. Depending on the players' decisions in the fourth scenario, the path branches, leading to different outcomes. Furthermore, the expansion functions similarly to a 'Legacy' game, as you unlock cards and new mechanics that can permanently enrich the base game. The crucial difference is that there is no component destruction or tearing of cards, making the campaign fully replayable.
Whether playing with a group or in solo mode, 'War or Peace' adds layers of strategy and emotional context to the game, turning your empire-building into part of a larger plot. It's the perfect choice for those seeking more depth and wanting to see how their decisions impact the fate of a futuristic world.

Do I need the base game to play?
Yes, this is an expansion. You need It's a Wonderful World to use these scenarios and cards.
Is it a Legacy game? Will I have to tear cards?
It feels like a Legacy game because of the unlocks, but it's NOT. There is no component destruction, so the campaign is fully replayable.
How long does the entire campaign take?
There are 5 to 6 scenarios. Since each game takes 30 to 60 minutes, the full campaign lasts a few hours.
Can I play it solo?
Yes! The expansion is fully compatible with solo play.
Can the unlocked cards be used in the standard game?
Yes, the cards you unlock during the campaign can be integrated into the base game to enrich regular matches.
Is it much more complex than the original game?
Not really. It adds scenario-specific rules, but the core mechanics remain the same. It's a natural step for those who already master the base game.
