Step by step
Game Objective
The main objective in Jungo is to be the first player to get rid of all your cards before your opponents. It's important to remember that, during the game, you will add and remove cards from your hand, but you can never reorganize the cards that are in your hand (neither order them nor move them).
Preparation (Setup)
- Shuffle all the cards (64 Numbered Cards and 8 Double Cards) and deal to each player:
- For 3 players: 10 cards each.
- For 4 and 5 players: 8 cards each.
- Each player looks at the cards they received, without revealing them to opponents. Remember: you cannot change the order of the cards in your hand!
- With the remaining cards, form a face-down draw pile and place it within reach of all players. Leave space next to it for a discard pile.
- The player who most recently ate a banana starts the game.
Game Flow
Players take turns clockwise. On your turn, you must perform one of the two following options:
- A Play one or more cards
- B Draw a card
If the draw pile runs out, shuffle the cards from the discard pile and form a new draw pile.
Actions and How to Play
A Play one or more cards
Play a card combination (one or more) from your hand to the center of the table. To perform this action, these cards must:
- all have the same value,
- and be adjacent in your hand,
- and if there is already a combination on the table, your combination must be stronger.
A card combination is considered stronger than a previously played combination on the table if:
- it has more cards (regardless of value),
- or if it has the same number of cards, but with higher value cards.
If you play a stronger combination, take all the cards from the "defeated" combination and:
- add them to your hand (in any position you want, even separating them),
- or discard them to the discard pile. The discard pile is a face-up pile, next to the draw pile.
The newly played combination becomes the one to beat if the next player (the player to the left) wants to choose option A Play one or more cards.
Double Cards: Double cards can take one of the 2 indicated values, at the choice of the player who plays it.
No one defeats your combination? If your combination is not defeated by any other player, you must discard it as soon as your turn comes and must play any other combination to start a new round.
B Draw a card
If you cannot or do not want to play any card from your hand, draw a card from the draw pile and:
- add it to your hand (in any position you want),
- or discard it to the discard pile,
- or invoke the Jungo Law and play a combination with the newly drawn card.
When invoking the Jungo Law:
- Play the drawn card in front of you and announce "JUNGO!".
- If necessary, play more cards from your hand (adjacent cards of the same value as the drawn card) to form a combination stronger than the one currently on the table.
End of Game and Scoring
When a player no longer has cards in hand, they win the game. Games are fast, and you can play several in sequence. In this case, you can decide that the first player to win 2 times wins the competition.
