About the game
What you do in a play session
KeyForge: Age of Ascension brings the second era of the KeyForge universe, introducing 204 brand‑new cards that blend into the existing pool, bringing the total to 370 distinct cards. Each deck, called an Archon Deck, is generated uniquely, so no two players will share the same set of cards. The starter set delivers two exclusive Age of Ascension decks, a Quickstart rulebook, two themed playmats featuring the Crucible, and everything you need to get going: keys, Æmber tokens, and chain trackers.
The game plays in short turns, with you stepping into the role of an Archon leading one of the three Houses—Logos, Sanctum, or Untamed. At the start of each turn you declare which House you’ll use and can play any number of that House’s cards for free. This creates a frantic pace of action, but you must find the balance between generating Æmber and attacking your opponent. When you have six Æmber at the start of a turn, you can forge a key; the first to forge three keys wins.
Hand Management is at the core, making your hand your biggest resource: you decide which cards to play at the right moment, trying to anticipate your opponent’s moves. Take That lets you strike directly at enemy cards, adding tension and unpredictability to every game. The zero‑cost play rule keeps the tempo brisk, but it also demands careful timing, as a mistake can leave your board exposed.
For players who enjoy quick, tactical duels with the thrill of a one‑of‑a‑kind deck, Age of Ascension is a solid pick. It’s perfect for couples, friends looking for an intense showdown, or anyone wanting to explore new territory in the KeyForge universe. If you love collecting and exploring decks, the new era expands the possibilities even further while preserving the original game’s spirit and adding fresh cards and challenges.
