About the game
What you do in a play session
Kingsburg: To Forge a Realm is the expansion that makes the base game even more customizable and full of surprises. It introduces five distinct modules that can be mixed or used separately, ensuring each playthrough has its own flavor. First, two extra building rows provide additional space to grow and diversify your city, while seven alternative rows replace the standard ones – each player receives two of these during setup, creating slightly different boards for each participant. The third module adds over twenty new characters, each with a special ability that stays with the player from start to finish, expanding strategic options. The fourth module brings more than twenty events that are shuffled and revealed at the start of each year; these effects can be helpful, neutral, or even detrimental, but they affect everyone simultaneously, creating tension and opportunity. Finally, the winter reinforcement module offers a deterministic alternative to the usual dice: each player gets six tokens numbered 0, 1, 1, 2, 3 and 4 and discards one at the beginning of each winter to gain extra soldiers from the king, allowing more precise planning. Combining these modules lets you tweak difficulty, variety of decisions, and resource‑management complexity without altering the core worker placement and dice‑rolling mechanics that define Kingsburg. Perfect for those who have mastered the base game and crave new variants, the expansion retains the 90‑minute playtime, supports 2‑5 players, and stays at a light 2.5/5 weight. In short, To Forge a Realm adds replayability, strategic choices, and a dash of personalization that makes every game feel fresh.
