In KOI, you’re a colorful koi fish swimming through a serene pond, but the competition for food is fierce! Each player controls a fish using programmed movement cards to navigate the hexagonal board, trying to gobble up dragonflies (3 points each) and frogs (1 point). But it’s not just swimming and eating: you can also place elements like lily pads (which spawn dragonflies), stones (which block opponents), and cherry blossoms (which scatter creatures in your direction). Each round, a random event changes the game rules, requiring quick adaptation. The game lasts seven days (rounds), and whoever scores the most points wins. There’s even a solo mode against an adjustable AI! KOI is an elegant game with simple strategy but tactical depth — and a gorgeous look that captures the peace (and rivalry) of a Japanese pond.
