About the game

What you do in a play session

Koi-Koi is a traditional Japanese card game played with the stunning Hanafuda deck (literally 'flower cards'). This two-player game blends strategy, luck, and a bit of bluffing. The goal is to form specific combinations (called Yakus) by 'fishing' matching cards from the table. Each card features a month and a symbol (flowers, ribbons, animals, or specials), and matching cards from the same month is key to stealing points from your opponent. The 'Koi-Koi' mechanic (meaning 'come on!' in Japanese) adds a push-your-luck element: you can stop to score your points or keep going to try and increase your haul—but if your opponent lands a Yaku before you do, they take it all! Games are quick, lasting around 30 minutes, and the card art is a visual treat. Perfect for fans of easy-to-learn games with strategic depth.
