About the game

What you do in a play session

Machi Koro: Harbor arrives as the first official expansion for the beloved Machi Koro, adding new cards, a bustling harbor, a shiny airport, and the option to play with up to five people. The core loop stays the same – you still manage your tiny city‑state by rolling dice to activate establishments – but now you must handle new business types that require boats, cargo ships, and planes. Each round begins with the roll of two dice, yet harbor cards let you convert resources more flexibly, while the airport opens extra cash routes when the right number shows up. The expansion brings 10 new establishments, a fresh starting card, and two additional landmarks, totaling 82 cards that blend into the original deck. The light weight (about 1.7/5) and 30‑minute playtime remain, ensuring the game stays quick and fun. The biggest upgrade is the fifth‑player slot, raising the stakes in the city’s elections – who will secure re‑election? While it adds more strategic choices, the mechanics stay very approachable, perfect for seasoned Machi Koro fans and newcomers alike. If your town is already saturated with cheese factories and coffee shops, the harbor and airport give you a chance to innovate, attract tourists, and, of course, fill the treasury. The only caveat is that, as an expansion, you need the base game to play, and the card translation may still be a hurdle for non‑English speakers.
