About the game

What you do in a play session

In 2014, Gen Con handed out a promo card that brought the *Victorian Griffin* creature into the Mage Wars universe. If you’ve dived into mage duels, you’ll spot the vibe of a Victorian griffin: majestic, winged, and a hint of nostalgia. The card lists the creature at 17 Mana, 15 Health, and 2 Armor, plus a swift attack that rolls four piercing damage dice. Its *Flying* trait gives aerial advantage, but also casts a spell: enemy creatures in the same zone are hampered and lose the ability to become *Elusive*. That means while the griffin soars, opponents struggle to escape or gain stealthy advantage. The *Area Majority / Influence* mechanic kicks in when you try to dominate the zone the griffin occupies; whoever controls the majority there gains influence and, consequently, combat edge. *Dice Rolling* adds that dose of unpredictability that makes each turn unique, while *Simultaneous Action Selection* ensures both players make choices without knowing the other’s move first, upping the tension. If you love card games with strategy, a splash of luck, and a fantasy setting full of wizards and beasts, the *Victorian Griffin Promo Card* is a collectible that’s worth adding to your deck. It doesn’t replace the base game, but it adds a new layer of tactics, especially when you want to throw in a dash of Victorian flair to your spell‑battles.
