About the game
What you do in a play session
You know that classic horror movie vibe where the house feels like it's watching you? That's exactly what you get in 'What Lies Within'. Imagine a brutal murder in Southside that leaves a residence abandoned. But, as in every good horror story, the house isn't truly empty. Something strange is happening, and the noises coming from the cellar are the least of your worries.
In this scenario for the second edition of Mansions of Madness, you and your group of up to five investigators must enter this mansion to unravel the mystery. The goal isn't just to find out who killed the victim, but to understand what the victim did during their life to ensure you can escape the house alive. The experience is immersive and tense: you'll explore rooms, fight grotesque creatures, and deal with phenomena that defy logic.
The game uses a hybrid system, where the app handles the heavy lifting of narration and scenario management, while you focus on strategy and physical exploration. You'll need to manage your resources, roll dice to test your skills, and make quick decisions under pressure. The atmosphere is thick, and every door opened could reveal either a crucial clue or a living nightmare. If you love the Lovecraftian vibe, police investigations with a supernatural twist, and the feeling that your character's sanity is hanging by a thread, this scenario is a must. Grab your flashlights, organize your team, and try not to panic, because whatever lies within that house doesn't want you to discover the truth.

Quick answers before you buy
Can I play this scenario solo?
Yes! The game supports 1 to 5 players, so you can face the horror alone or with a group.
Do I need anything else besides the base game?
Yes, this is an additional scenario. You need the Mansions of Madness (Second Edition) base game and the installed app.
How long does a game take?
Expect to spend between 120 and 150 minutes. It's a long and detailed experience.
Is the game very complex?
It has a medium weight (3.33 on BGG). If you're already familiar with the 2nd Edition rules, it's easy; otherwise, the learning curve is moderate.
Is the app actually necessary?
Absolutely. Without the app, the game doesn't work, as it handles the narration and monster control.
