In Merchant of Venus, you step into the shoes of a daring space merchant, chasing fortune across the galaxies. Your ship will navigate a fixed map, yet the universe unfolds differently each game, thanks to the random distribution of alien species and their markets. With every journey, you discover new worlds and civilizations to trade with, buying and selling commodities within a dynamic supply-and-demand system. The price you receive for your cargo varies according to the species inhabiting the system, and product availability shifts, ensuring that profitable routes are always fresh and challenging.
With your earned profits, you can upgrade your fleet, swapping your ship for superior models or equipping it with shields, lasers, and more powerful engines, which allow you to, for example, skip spaces on the board. Furthermore, you can invest in building your own infrastructure: factories that produce more valuable goods and spaceports that streamline your trading operations. Victory is yours when you accumulate a predetermined value in cash and property deeds like factories and spaceports. While the basic movement is a classic roll-and-move, ship upgrades add a strategic layer. The game also offers variations, including player-versus-player combat and a solo mode, for those who prefer to explore the cosmos in their own company.
