Metropolys puts you in the shoes of an urban planner competing with other architects to leave a lasting imprint on the city. Each player gets a set of numbered markers representing glass‑and‑steel buildings. On your turn you pick a space on the board and place one of these markers; the displayed number shows the strength of your bid. Others may pass or outbid you by placing a higher‑numbered marker in an adjacent space. When nobody wants to raise further, the bid ends: the winner flips his marker (hiding the number) and collects the losing bids. A new auction starts, and the cycle repeats until a player has placed all of his buildings, ending the game.
The board is divided into three area types: Metro spaces (worth positive points), archaeological sites (penalize the player who most recently built there), and fashionable locations (grant extra points). Additionally, each player holds up to two hidden agendas – secret goals like surrounding fountains or controlling both sides of bridges – that award extra prestige if achieved.
The game runs in 30‑60 minutes, is light‑weight (BGG weight 2.2) yet tactically rich, perfect for fans of strategic bidding and area control. With its Art Nouveau visuals and city‑building theme, Metropolys offers a quick, engaging experience where every bid can shift the balance of power.
