About the game
What you do in a play session
Mists over Carcassonne takes the classic tile‑laying game into a world of fog and ghosts. Instead of racing to score the most points, players band together to stop the spread of spirits across the map. Each game starts with a set of tiles and two new types of meeples – 45 in all – that represent the “knights” and the “fairies” of the game. While placing tiles to build cities, roads, and cloisters, players must also keep an eye on the number of ghosts that appear in the “camps” and “cemeteries.” If the ghost count exceeds the limit or the team’s score is too low when the tiles run out, the crew loses. Surviving three days, however, lets players raise the difficulty, turning the challenge up a notch. The set comes with rules that explain how to incorporate the material into a regular competitive Carcassonne game, making it easy to switch between modes. The artwork follows the 2021 edition’s aesthetic, with colorful tiles and details that evoke the feel of a haunted castle. The tile‑placement mechanic stays true to the original, but the addition of ghosts and the need for cooperation add a fresh layer of strategy that keeps the game exciting. If you’re a Carcassonne fan who enjoys testing your teamwork skills, Mists over Carcassonne is the perfect pick. It blends familiarity with innovation, offering hours of fun for 1 to 5 players with an average playtime of about 35 minutes.
