Mombasa: Cooked Books Mini Expansion arrived in 2016 as a surprise bonus in the Deutscher Spielepreis Goodie Box. If you already own the base game, simply add the six new book tiles and the bookkeeper tile to the board. The bookkeeper tile acts as an additional bonus area: you pay the amount shown on the tile to acquire it, and at the end of the game, each book your ink jar has reached or passed earns bonus points. If no other player has more books, you may place the tile here, and the books are not consumed. The reward is straightforward: one book gives 2 pounds, two give 5, and three or more give 9. The mini‑expansion retains the same economic and market vibe of the original game but adds an extra layer of strategy by introducing the possibility of accumulating books and leveraging the bonus area. Playtime stays the same – 75 to 150 minutes – but the dynamic becomes denser, as players must decide when to pay for the tile and how to use books to maximize gains. If you enjoy quick decisions, area influence, and hand management, this add‑on will spice things up without demanding much extra time or complex components. Ideal for players who already master Mombasa and want to test new victory routes or for those looking for a compact expansion that doesn’t alter the core game’s essence.
