About the game

What you do in a play session

Get ready for a nostalgic trip with Monad, a 1968 classic that proves smart games don't need a thousand components. Here, the goal is to collect the coveted "Monad" cards, reminiscent of the yin-yang symbol. To achieve this, you'll use a deck with six vibrant colors: warm (red, orange, yellow) and cool (green, blue, purple). Most cards are "Commons" (value 1), but there are also "Bis," "Tris," "Quads," and "Quints," with multiple symbols and increasing values. Each player starts with a color "identity," which acts as a powerful wild card, and a "Bonus" card that can boost your trades. On your turn, the trick is to climb levels! You can "Trade" two cards of opposite colors and the same level for one from the higher pile. If you get lucky and the colors match your Bonus, you even grab a card from the lower pile. Want to go faster? "Leap" to a higher level by trading more cards! If combinations don't work out, "Buy" cards using the sum of their values to acquire cards from higher levels – Monads can be bought for 80 points! Or, if you want to take a chance, you can draw the top card from the deck, but that's it, no more actions that turn. The first to collect the right amount of Monads wins. A quick, strategic game with a retro flair that still charms!
