About the game

What you do in a play session

Hey folks! Ready for a challenge to see who can stack the most trash without making a mess? In Mountain 53 (originally known as Ab in die Tonne), we play as some rather lazy characters who'd rather let the garbage pile up than clean the bin. The goal is straightforward: toss trash into the bin, but with that 'who will knock it over first?' vibe.

Each player gets a hand of cards numbered 1 to 10. Scattered around are the 'trash' pieces—cartons, bottles, apple cores—ready to be piled up. Every round, we secretly choose a card from our hand, and then, at the count of three, everyone reveals simultaneously. Play proceeds from the lowest number to the highest, and each player adds trash pieces equal to the number on their revealed card into or onto the garbage bin. If you're the unlucky (or lucky!) one who causes the trash mountain to collapse, you get a penalty token, and the bin is emptied. But if you manage to place the final piece without causing chaos, you get a bonus!

The game ends after the sixth penalty token has been given out. Whoever has the fewest penalty points is the champion of tidiness (or messiness!). It's a fast-paced game with a dexterity element and plenty of laughs, perfect for those who enjoy light competition and an unusual theme. Get your hands ready and may luck be on your side!
